Based on data from Global Innovation Index (GII), we see a noticeable improvement in the innovation ranking of India. From 80th ranking in 2015, India has improved to 60th ranking as of 2017. Definitely a good jump. Thanks to various initiatives in innovation and startup culture that led to this jump. Yet, when compared to many well known economies, we are yet to improve a lot.

We could see countries that have less than 20% of our population are rated ahead of India in innovation. What does this mean to us, our children and India? We are still continuing the trend of following other foreign countries for the technology growth! Wish we would reverse the trend soon.
Here are some of the behaviors in our kids we could encourage to improve their innovation quotient!
1. Sports & Physical activities

Yes! Could see off topic. But the reality is when we are physically active, our mental focus improves. So, let us encourage our kids to play out doors. This should help refresh their mind and intern will help improve thinking differently.
2. Encourage Questioning

The power of reasoning is the strength of childhood! When they ask What, When, Why and How?!, let's spend quality time to clarify them! We could provide as much as information as possible! Don't have to feel bad if we don't know the answer :)! Lets be open with them and provide them the answers by browsing or by further reading.
3. Encourage Failures

When we think different, it is obvious that we may fail most of the time. But by experience, we now know that only failures teaches us a lot. The learning we get by failures is much more than the one we get by positive information. So, let them fail, fail and fail. It will make them learn a lot. It will make them think differently to avoid the failures and will result in innovation. So, don't have to just stop by encouraging them for good attempts. Let's encourage failures too!
